Claire Lyons rubbed her sleep deprived eyes. School was starting soon and she needed as much rest as possible. Even though she was nervous about seeing Cam since their breakup, she was excited to see her cousin Cody. She was going to Maritime Coastal Institute, the high school Claire would be going to in a few days. She felt a wave of nausea, but it wore off when she saw her cousin walk through gate 12.
"Claire!!!!!" Cody said, rushing towards Claire with open arms. Jay, Claire's dad, rushed to pick up her navy blue Nike bag, which she had dropped dangerously close to an older woman's foot.
"It's so great to see you!!" Claire gushed. "I feel like I haven't seen you since you moved to Colorado with Jake and Finley!"
"You really haven't, actually," Cody giggled.
"Sorry, it's just that I'm so tired."
"It's fine. How's Todd?" Cody asked as they started walking towards luggage claim. "Can't be any better than living in an apartment with your older brothers." She rolled her ever-changing eyes. Currently they were a hazel-brown mixture.
"He's fine, ahn-noying as ever," Claire replied. "How excited are you to go to MCI?"
"Pretty excited." Cody grinned as she reached for her luggage on the revolving table. "They do have sports there, right?"
Claire nodded, and then yawned. "Yeah, they have cheerleading too," She bit her nail and spared her the knowledge that it was nothing like in the Bring It On movies she watched when she couldn't sleep.
"Nice! Cheerleading in the big cities is usually so much better than what we do at Aurora. You should see Boulder's team!" Claire shrugged. Let her figure it out on her own.
Minutes later, after hitting up the nearest McDonald's, Cody and Claire were leaning back to back in the middle with their feet out the window, munching on fries. Claire never felt so at home. She had basically grown up w/ Cody and hadn't seen her since she was 10. They IM'd every now and then but it wasn't enough.
Then Claire realized she was ready to take on anything life threw at her.
MCI, here she comes.
